Keeping track of the nation’s attitudes towards saving for retirement

Scottish Widows 2025 retirement report

Since 2005, the Scottish Widows Retirement Report has kept track of the nation’s attitudes towards saving for a pension and its hopes and expectations for the future.

According to our National Retirement Forecast (NRF) this year, just under a third of people will be on track for a comfortable retirement according to the PLSA. We look at barriers faced, and underline the importance of getting people to engage with their pension as a key step to improving retirement outcomes.

At the same time, we highlight the importance of connecting saving for retirement to other financial challenges like managing debt, building financial resilience and ensuring housing security. We look to the future by setting out several policy recommendations.
