2007 Widows

Recognising success and achievement in the financial adviser community

The 2007 winners were decided by an independent panel of judges comprising some of the industry's leading figures.

The 2007 Widows awards were presented at the prestigious Scottish Widows Gala Dinner, held at historic Banqueting House, Whitehall in London. The evening was hosted by Scottish Widows' Olympic Ambassadors, Roger Black MBE and Sarah Bailey MBE.
The winners were:

  • IFA Newcomer – Nim Maradas of Helm Godfrey

Nim Maradas

Nim has made a real impact in financial services industry since her arrival to the industry. After working at the FT and Financial Adviser magazine, Nim has made the unusual transition from journalist to IFA. The judges were particularly impressed with her ability to combine her new career as an adviser with financial journalism.

  • Personality of the Year – Justin Modray
  • Justin Modray

Justin’s work in the media has caught the imagination of the consumer with key industry issues. The judges agreed that Justin has over the last 12 months had a profound effect in generating positive media coverage for investments and pensions, but also positioning IFAs and advice in a positive light.

  • Industry Initiative of the Year – Kevin Carr of LifeSearch

Kevin Carr

Kevin was nominated on the basis of championing a cause that will better the industry for consumers. Kevin can be described as a one-person industry when it comes to promoting protection, in particular, championing the fair treatment of policyholders.

  • Lifetime Achievement – Len Warwick CBE of Warwick Butchart Associates

Len Warwick

Len is a figure who is well known to many in the IFA community, and is one of the most respected and influential IFAs in the UK. Len is joint managing director of a highly successful practice offering financial planning advice throughout the UK.  A founding member of the Association of IFAs, he was awarded the CBE in 1996 for services to financial regulation. His reputation for reasoned argument and his commitment to professionalism at a critical time in the industry’s development is second to none.

All the winners were presented with an Oscar sized bronze statue of the Scottish Widow.
