2006 Widows
Recognising success and achievement in the financial adviser community
The 2006 Widows awards were presented at a prestigious Gala Dinner at the Royal Courts of Justice at The Strand.
The winners were:
IFA Newcomer – Antony Williams of Evolve Financial Planning

Peter Hendry, Antony Williams & Barry Cryer
Antony is a young man in his early 30s, but has impressed the judges with his approach to the IFA business model. He has set up a fee-based business and has six CFP qualified advisers with an average age of only 31. The model is as impressive as it is innovative and should serve as an example to anybody looking to start up in this sector.
Personality of the Year – Tom McPhail of Hargreaves Lansdown

Mike Hoban, Tom McPhail & Barry Cryer
The judges agreed that Tom has been everywhere this year and has been a prominent spokesperson in the trade and consumer media across a broad range of issues. His amiable attitude and technical competence have allowed him to thrive on the opportunities of A-day and he, above all others, has contributed his own unique personality and insight into the pensions environment this year.
Industry Initiative of the Year – Tom Baigrie of LifeSearch

Chris Phillips, Tom Baigrie & Barry Cryer
Tom was nominated for more than one initiative by our panel of judges which made him a clear winner for this award. His campaign for 'no advice, no protection', resonated strongly with our judging panel. His campaign for the re-introduction of guaranteed CI claims and full underwriting was also highly commended by the judges.
Lifetime Achievement – Ken Davy of Simply Biz

Barry Cryer, Ken Davy & Nathan Moss
The judges decided that his contribution to the IFA market over more than 30 years, through the setting up of the DBS network to his current Simply Biz operation, has brought innovation and modern thinking to the largest scale IFA models. His operation supports the smaller IFA which is vital to the industry and he is an extremely personable, charming, yet intelligent business man.
All the winners were presented with an Oscar sized statue of the Scottish Widow.
The winners were decided by an independent panel of judges comprising some of the industry’s leading figures, including:
Guy Vanner, Communications Director, AKG Actuaries & Consultants
John Turton, Proprietor, Utopia Marketing
Chris Cummings, Director General, AIFA
Janet Walford, Editor, Money Management.
