Premier Pension Range

1 Year Anniversary

It’s now just over a year since we launched our Premier Pension range and we’re delighted to be able to report on progress to date.

Our Premier Pension Portfolios are a range of eight multi-asset funds, which offer a spectrum of potential returns and corresponding levels of risk. They build upon our original range of Pension Portfolio funds and lifestyling options, by offering better potential returns for broadly similar levels of risk.

The Premier range is made up of:

Premier Pension Investment Approaches (PPIA)Premier Governed Investment Strategies (PGIS)Premier Pension Portfolio Funds
For corporate pensions lifestyling For individual pensions lifestyling Components for our Premier lifestyling options and as stand-alone funds for pensions customers

Our Asset Allocation Director, Gavin Stewart, shares his thoughts on Premier’s 1st year performance:

“It is always important to get new funds off to a good start and I am very pleased how we have managed to do that for Premier. In a year when the PIA / GIS funds did very well compared to competitors’ funds across the board, Premier has significantly outperformed them in the more active versions. As importantly key elements of our underlying rationale have worked in practice – the benefit of smart beta; the positive returns that good Absolute Return funds can generate; and the benefits we got from diversifying into areas such as global property exposure. I look forward to continuing to work on generating future success for this range of funds.”

Some key highlights from our 1st year:

  • The underlying Premier Pension Portfolios have produced strong absolute performance, especially those towards the upper end of the reward/risk spectrum.
  • This is particularly relevant for lifestyling customers, because Premier Portfolios 1, 2 and 3 are the funds used in the ‘growth’ stages of our PPIA and PGIS lifestyling options (see table below):

  • Smart beta funds are a key differentiator for our Premier range, so it’s encouraging to see how well these performed in 2016.
  • With now close to £100m invested in our Premier range (as at January 2017), we’re delighted with the reception the funds have received to date.

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The value of investments, and the income from them, may fall as well as rise. Investors may not receive back the full amount originally invested.
