Scottish income tax bands 2017/2018

The Scottish Government is using its income tax powers to set its own higher rate tax band for 2017/2018.

*Reduces by £1 for every £2 income in excess of £100,000.

In 2017/2018, Scottish taxpayers entitled to the full £11,500 personal allowance will pay higher rate tax on incomes over £43,000, compared to £45,000 in the rest of the UK.

The December 2016 Draft Scottish Budget proposed that the basic rate band would increase to £31,930 for 2017/2018. The decision to freeze the basic rate band at £31,500 for Scottish taxpayers was announced on 2 February 2017.

National Insurance thresholds will remain aligned across the UK, with the upper earnings limit at which class 1 NI falls to 2% set at £45,000.
