Classic (formerly the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme),
Classic Plus, Premium and Nuvos Pension Schemes
As a member of one of the Civil Service Pension Schemes you have
access to a package of pension and family benefits. Even so, you
may want to think of increasing your pension contribution especially
if you:
- are considering retiring early; or
- will have less than 40 years service by the time you reach the
retiring age under the main Civil Service Scheme (which for most members is age 60).
Topping up your pension through the Civil Service Additional Voluntary
Contribution (AVC) Scheme aims to provide you with:
- an additional income for your retirement.
- increased benefits for your dependants, if you die before you
retire.
- the flexibility to vary the level of your AVC payments into the
Scheme and allows you to stop and start your payments, currently all without
penalty.
