About the 2008 Calendar
The 2008 calendar shots
In October 2007, Scottish Widows unveiled its second exclusive Calendar. The calendar was again produced in a limited edition of only 500 copies. Six talented young photographers battled it out to win the prestigious 2008 calendar commission, following the success of the first edition launched last year.
The wining photographer was Paul
Plews
,
a recent graduate from Blackpool College who was commissioned to
shoot 12 portraits featuring the Scottish Widow, Hayley Hunt.
The photography was based on the idea of getting to know the Scottish Widow ‘behind the scenes’. The 12 portraits show the contrast in the Widow’s life, from the glossy and glamorous Widow that we see on our screens to the more private figure away from the cameras.
Paul says: “Working with an icon like the Scottish Widow was a real opportunity. The Widow is famous for being dignified and enigmatic but I wanted to bring an informality, intimacy and warmth to her and make people feel they know her a little better”.
Mike Hoban, Customer and Brand Marketing Director, said "We were thoroughly impressed with Paul’s imaginative shots. Paul has taken a famous icon and shown us another side of her character - his shots promise to provide a whole new perspective on the Scottish Widow persona. It’s an exciting opportunity for an artist so young to get himself a name in the photographic industry, and Paul has brought a fresh and youthful approach to the image of the Scottish Widow."
The 500 copies have been distributed to a carefully selected group of people including celebrities, VIPs and key members of the financial industry.
