Archie Kane, Chief Executive Scottish Widows & Group Executive Director (I&I)

Archie Kane
Archie Kane was appointed Chief Executive of Scottish Widows on 1 October 2003. On the same day he was also appointed Group Executive Director, Insurance and Investments at Lloyds TSB Group plc. Archie was appointed to the main board of Lloyds TSB Group on 1 January 2000, having previously spent over three years as Group Executive Director, IT & Operations for Lloyds TSB. Prior to this, on 1 January 1997, he was appointed as Director of Group IT and Operations at Lloyds TSB. He was responsible for the overall development of Group IT Strategy and the management of Central Service IT, Operations and Systems Development, including the core Lloyds TSB Bank systems. He was also responsible for Group Operations, Group Property Services, Group Business Transformation and the Bank's Group Property Portfolio.

Archie has been with the bank since 1986 and in 1989 was appointed to Director of Financial Control for the Retail Banking Division. Before joining TSB, Archie had already enjoyed a successful career outside banking culminating as Finance Director of BT Yellow Pages Sales Division. He has also spent several years abroad, working in most Northern European counties, Africa and the United States.

Christian Torkington, Managing Director of Operations, Scottish Widows

Christian Torkington joined Scottish Widows as IT Director at the end of July 2004. He has responsibility for strategy, planning, development and delivery for all IT-based services.

Before joining Scottish Widows, Christian was Chief Executive of Rural Regeneration Cumbria, England's first rural regeneration company. Prior to this, he held a number of senior positions in IT and Operations in Barclays. These included Managing Director of Service Integration - with responsibility for all operations and IT change projects across the Group - and Director, Group Customer Information Programme - working to the Chief Executive, Matt Barrett - with responsibility for integrating group customer data. He is a chartered accountant and was a management consultant before joining Barclays.

Jim McConville, Finance Director (I&I)

Jim McConville
Jim has been with Lloyds TSB Group for 17 years, having joined TSB Bank Scotland in 1988 and Scottish Widows in October 2000. He has held a number of senior finance roles. Prior to joining Scottish Widows, Jim was the Director of Group Strategy Monitoring and Planning for Lloyds TSB Group. Before that Jim worked with Coopers & Lybrand.

His qualifications include: Bachelor of Commerce - Edinburgh University and Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Jean Park, Risk Management Director (I&I)

Jean Park
Jean joined Scottish Widows in August 1998. She has held a number of senior Compliance, Audit and Risk roles.

Prior to joining Scottish Widows, Jean was the Assistant General Manager, responsible for Compliance, audit and some financial project work. Before that, Jean worked with Ernst & Young.

Her qualifications include: Bachelor in Accounting - Glasgow University and Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Cameron Walker, Corporate Communications Director, Scottish Widows

Cameron Walker
Cameron was appointed to his role as Director of Corporate Communications for Scottish Widows in October 2004. Sitting on the Company Executive, he has responsibility for all Internal and External Communications including the areas of Media Relations, Internal Communications, Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility (CSR) considerations.

Previously, Cameron has spent a total of 17 years working in Corporate Communications for a variety of FTSE 100 Companies in both the Financial Services and Food and Drink Sectors of the economy including Scottish & Newcastle plc, Safeway, The Royal Bank of Scotland Corporate Banking, Halifax Group Wholesale & Treasury and Nomura International plc.

Married, he lives in Perthshire and enjoys various sports, reading and travel.

Kate Guthrie, HR Director (I&I)

Kate Guthrie
Kate Guthrie joined Scottish Widows as HR Director in November 2004. She has a strong business and HR background with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of HR roles and companies, including 10 years at Diageo, one of the UK's leading HR companies. Kate joined Scottish Widows from Novartis Pharma AG, where she was Global Head of HR for various pharmaceuticals businesses based in Switzerland, before returning to the UK as country HR Director in 2003.

Kate is married with one daughter and enjoys a variety of hobbies including keep fit and running.

Adrian Eastwood, Actuarial Director, Scottish Widows

Adrian Eastwood
Adrian Eastwood was appointed as Actuarial Director of Scottish Widows in March 2000 and joined its Executive Committee in October 2005. He is responsible for providing actuarial services to all the life insurance companies in the Lloyds TSB Group. Adrian joined Scottish Widows in 1983 and, having held a number of positions, had a key role in negotiating the terms of the demutualisation of Scottish Widows on behalf of its policyholders. He became Appointed Actuary to Scottish Widows plc in January 2001.

Adrian is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries and has been a member of its Council, the Faculty's governing body, since 2000. He is Chairman of the UK actuarial profession's Life Board.

Adrian graduated from Queens' College, Cambridge in Mathematics in 1983. Born in 1961, he is married with three children and lives in Edinburgh.


Andy Briggs, Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution, Scottish Widows

Andy Briggs

Andy joined Scottish Widows in January 2007, as Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution. He is responsible for the Scottish Widows' profit & loss and market strategy, covering all Distribution, Product Development, Product Management, Brand and Marketing.

He was previously at Prudential for 19 years, where he was latterly Chief Executive of Retirement Income, the business that generated the majority of Prudential's UK profits. His earlier roles included UK Distribution Director, Marketing Director and he held a number of positions in Customer Service, Actuarial and Finance.

Andy graduated from Southampton University in Mathematics with Operational Research in 1987, and became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1990.

Andy has two daughters. He and his wife spend time between their homes in London and Edinburgh.

Andy enjoys travelling, fine wine, playing golf and watching rugby.
