Environmental
At Scottish Widows we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and in May 2007 pledged to become carbon neutral by end 2007 and reduce our total carbon emissions by 2012.
Key areas where we focus our attention are property management, purchasing and contracts.
We aim to:
- Minimise the amount of waste we produce by raising staff awareness and encouraging the recycling of office waste, including paper, plastics glass, CD-Roms and print cartridges
- Cut the amount of energy we consume by continuing to use energy-saving measures and by following recognised guidelines and codes of practice in our property management
- Incorporate specific environmental requirements into contracts with principal suppliers
- Specify products, wherever practical, from sustainable sources, products made from recycled materials or designed to be easy to re-use or recycle
- Comply with all relevant environmental, health and safety regulations and legislation
- Report publicly on our environmental management
Ethical and Environmental Investment Management
We strive to offer ethical and environmental funds through the Investment Solutions range managed by Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.
Travel and carbon emissions
To reduce the amount of travelling required within our workforce, we are making increased use of teleconferencing and videoconferencing. This not only saves time and money, but also reduces the carbon-footprint of our company.
